Buy Less, Give More

ONE afternoon, my husband and I went for a three-hour drive to pick up a rental truck to use in our wheat harvest. The first part of the trip was along a highway I had traveled many times; the last was in new territory. On the new road I was excited to see a flea market sign. "Oh! That looks like fun!" I said. But then I realized we really didn't need to buy anything.

I have come to see that the less I buy, the more money I have to give to missions, church, and other ministries. I'm learning to live more simply because I'm thankful for what God has done in my life. Out of that gratitude I want to give and to help others come to know and worship God also.

I certainly haven't mastered the art of frugal living. I love books and magazines way too much. And I'm not as careful with our grocery budget as I could be. But I've found that not only does buying less allow me to give more money away; owning less that I have to take care of gives me more time to spend with God and to serve others.

Thank you, God, that you are our great provider. Help us to be content with what we have so that we can give more. Amen.

If we live more simply, we can give more generously.
